Tunstall Fresh is a family business, with Sam the father, sons Gus and Hummy, and daughter’s Samya and Nadia, all playing important roles in the business. Friendly service is the mantra of Tunstall Fresh, and we have 15 staff employed, many from the local area. Behind the scenes is one of the most intricate parts of the business; the daily trip to the market and the technique of loading the truck at the market each day. An early rise is necessary and the buying, packing and delivery has no margin for error; timing is everything.
The loading of our truck is done by an expert, who ensures the pallets are distributed to the right areas of the truck – the axel and steering need to be weighted correctly.
SUPPORTING THE LOCAL AND VICTORIAN ECONOMY
Eating seasonal foods is important to us at Tunstall Fresh. As a rule, fruit and vegetables appear during the season that they are best for the body. For example, rich full-bodied apples and pumpkin are winter foods, while light juicy and refreshing mangoes and cucumbers are great for summer. Because of the volume of sales, we try to buy direct from local and Victorian farmers. Local strawberries are delivered to the door, citrus and stone fruits from local regions are often delivered directly. This ensures freshness and helps the struggling farming communities.
